Structure and Content
The new restructured PRE-ED programme (see Table 1) which was first implemented in 2004-5 consists of two compulsory core courses and a variety of elective courses all of which are offered to students of our Faculty undergoing their third and fourth year of studies. There are three different categories of elective courses, Professional Background courses, Professional Development courses and Professional Training courses. The number of the first two categories of courses offered each year depends on staff availability.
More specifically, all third year students are required to take the two core academic courses which introduce them to the theoretical and practical aspects of the teaching and learning of foreign languages, particularly English (Applied Linguistics and ELT Methods and Practices). Third and fourth year students particularly interested in TEFL (the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language) may choose any of the relevant Professional Background and Professional Development courses offered each year, while, only fourth year students can choose one or both Professional Training courses which are offered on an annual basis.
